The recovery in construction output continued in October, but was slower than in previous months.<\/p>\n
Construction output crept up by 1 per cent in October compared to September, new data from the Office for National Statistics has revealed. It was the sixth straight month of growth since the recovery from the spring lockdown began in May. Despite the improvement, the industry\u2019s monthly output of \u00a313.1bn is almost \u00a31bn lower than it was in February, before the pandemic struck, and more than \u00a31.1bn lower than it stood at the same time last year.<\/p>\n
Gareth Belsham, director of property consultancy Naismiths, said the rate of growth had \u201cslowed badly\u201d. Adding that \u201c<\/strong>October\u2019s wobble shows the recovery is far from complete and remains fragile.\u201d<\/p>\n Output for both private housing and private commercial work declined in the month, albeit after periods of strong growth. Continued growth in infrastructure saw the sector surpass its output level from 12 months ago. It is the only sector to achieve this feat.<\/p>\n
