Plans have gone in for a major riverside regeneration project in York.<\/span><\/p>\n

Local developer Helmsley Group submitted the application for the scheme to City of York Council. The construction value of the Coney Street Riverside project was estimated to be \u00a3500m, according to construction intelligence provider Glenigan.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 250,000 square foot scheme is for a mixed-use development with areas for retail, leisure, commercial and student housing, as well as an elaborate public realm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Historic lanes connect Coney Street and the River Ouse. The developer said it would carry out \u201csensitive preservation\u201d of the area to make the riverfront more accessible, as part of a wider plan to create a riverfront walkway \u2013 an ambition dating back to a 1969 report presented to the city\u2019s council.<\/span><\/p>\n

Helmsley Group executive director Max Reeves said: \u201cSince 2019, we have been engaged in a period of careful and strategic site assembly across Coney Street, and have worked with key stakeholders and investors, and most recently with the general public, to develop this vision.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sensitively regenerate an underappreciated area of York city centre, creating a vibrant community with heritage at its heart.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A contractor has yet to be appointed to the project. Consultancy Troup Bywaters + Anders Engineering Partnership and chartered surveyors Aspect4 are working with Helmsley on the planning.<\/span><\/p>\n
