The Skanska Costain Strabag joint venture (SCS JV) working on HS2 has been awarded an additional \u00a3305.3m by HS2 Ltd.<\/p>\n

The funds, awarded under the existing \u00a33.8bn contract, will go towards works on Phase One of the new high-speed railway.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They relate to planned and agreed changes to the scope of works. According to HS2 Ltd, the allocation is based on a calculation of a number of elements, including project contingency draw-down, additional compensation events, inflation adjustments and incentive payments.<\/p>\n

The payments relate to anticipated events that were previously forecast but not included in the contract point estimate. This includes costs relating to increased quantity of electricity to drive tunnel boring machines (TBMs), extended working hours to reduce programme delays, additional reinforcement volumes in key structures and an increase in tunnel labour requirement.<\/p>\n

The JV is split by 34 per cent Skanska, 34 per cent Costain and 32 per cent Strabag, and the funding split follows these percentages. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An HS2 Ltd spokesperson said: \u201cThere has been no increase in the budget for Phase One of HS2. The revision of budget allocation was anticipated spend and is all covered within the Phase One budget.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The contract involves the design and construction of major tunnels in the southern section of the overall project.<\/p>\n

Since being given notice to proceed by HS2 Ltd in April 2020, significant progress has been made.<\/p>\n

Two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) started operations in late 2022 from West Ruislip Portal towards Green Park Way. They will construct 8km of the 13.5km twin-bored Northolt Tunnel. Two further TBMs will be launched in the next year from Victoria Road Crossover Box.<\/p>\n

A third TBM is currently in operation from Atlas Road, constructing a logistics tunnel between Old Oak Common station site and the Atlas Road site.<\/p>\n

However, in April this year HS2 said the construction of a 7.2km tunnel between its Euston and Old Oak Common stations will not start next year as previously planned.<\/a><\/p>\n

SCS JV is responsible for building the Euston Tunnel in London as part of the main works civils contract. Last year the JV was awarded extra funding for the tunnel work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
