The London School of Economics (LSE) has named a Bouygues UK-Equitix consortium as preferred development partner for a major accommodation build in central London.<\/p>\n
Bouygues UK\u2019s development arm Linkcity is set to lead the 2,000-home development situated behind the Tate Modern on Bankside (pictured), while its contracting arm will carry out the building work, if the consortium is confirmed on the job. Equitix would provide investment.<\/p>\n
The value of the project has not yet been disclosed.<\/p>\n
The university and the consortium will now choose a design team and develop proposals for a planning application in early 2025.<\/p>\n
LSE is committed to being a carbon-neutral institution, so sustainability will be a key consideration for the project.<\/p>\n
Linkcity development director Oliver Campbell said: \u201cIn line with LSE\u2019s values, we will be putting climate and diversity at the heart of this project in order to deliver a vibrant, sustainable and truly inclusive space for students coming to live and study at LSE from across the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Equitix chief executive Hugh Crossley added: \u201cWorking in partnership with Bouygues UK, we are supporting foreign direct investment into the UK. We look forward to coming together again to create what we believe will be a landmark campus for this world-renowned institution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will aim to achieve multiple objectives with sustainability at its core, a focus on student wellbeing, an appreciation of the institution\u2019s history and its location at the very heart of London and developing what will become a lasting legacy for generations.\u201d<\/p>\n
A statement from Bouygues UK said that construction was expected to start on site in 2026, with completion earmarked for 2030, in time for students to move in at the start of the academic year.<\/p>\n
LSE director of estates Julian Robinson said: \u201cThis new building will form a key part of the LSE brand and identity. We will be looking for an exemplary piece of civic architecture which is affordable for all LSE students, focuses on environmental sustainability, health and wellbeing, and offers an outstanding student experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bouygues UK and Equitix have previously worked together on other student accommodation jobs, including for the universities of Essex and Gloucestershire.<\/p>\n
Engie, which became Equans, has also partnered with the investment company on student housing schemes including for Kingston University<\/a> and the University of Birmingham<\/a>.
