Northumbrian Water has added 33 firms including Esh Construction, Galliford Try and Keltbray to its growing army of suppliers to deliver \u00a33.6bn of projects in the second half of this decade.<\/p>\n

The utility giant appointed the contractors (see box below for full list) across an 11-lot framework that will be used on its asset management period 8 (AMP8) capital investment programme.<\/p>\n

This will sit alongside Northumbrian Water\u2019s Living Water Enterprise (LWE) panel in delivering works between 2025 and 2030.<\/p>\n

The utility said the latest appointments included a number from its operating areas, which include Essex, Suffolk and the North East, alongside 11 new entrants to the sector.<\/p>\n

Primarily working with Northumbrian Water\u2019s in-house delivery team to deliver \u201clean and agile short-term schemes\u201d, the 33 contractors will also play a role alongside LWE members on longer-cycle projects.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Northumbrian Water told Construction News <\/em>that each of the 11 lots is expected to deliver work worth just under \u00a3250m per year for the 33 new partners.<\/p>\n

Northumbrian Water assets director Monisha Gower said AMP8 represented \u201ca huge challenge\u201d.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cWe are nearly tripling our investment programme and this requires a significant increase in delivery capacity at a time when the rest of the sector, and construction as a whole, are also preparing to ramp up activity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe needed to build capacity when demand for supply chain partners is at an all-time high. That\u2019s why we\u2019ve moved quickly and worked innovatively in our procurement, to make sure we get the right partners on board, with time to prepare for delivery.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ecosystem we have built provides a lean and agile delivery community that will play a fundamental role as we scale for AMP8.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese appointments represent a significant milestone for us. Our delivery ecosystem is now fully populated with supply chain partners and we can begin planning for execution of our AMP8 programme in earnest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Costain, Bam Nutall, Esh-Stantec, Farrans Construction, Mott MacDonald Bentley, Avove and MWH Treatment were appointed to the LWE deal in January<\/a>, joining Stantec, Jacobs, Turner & Townsend, Aqua Consultants and Long O\u2019Donnell Associates, which were named a year earlier.<\/p>\n
