Balfour Beatty has won a contract to build a trio of electrical substations in Argyll, western Scotland, worth \u00a3192m.<\/p>\n

The contractor has been selected by SSEN Transmission to build the three new 275kV substations in Craig Murrail, An Suidhe, and Crarae.<\/p>\n

The new substations form part of the client\u2019s Argyll and Kintyre reinforcement strategy and are designed to support an expected rise in renewable energy production in the region.<\/p>\n

It was awarded the project through the GIS2 RIIO T2 framework, to which it was appointed in 2022.<\/p>\n

Balfour Beatty<\/a>\u2019s power transmission and distribution managing director Tony Wilson said the scheme was crucial for enhancing substation infrastructure in the area.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cOur expertise in substation delivery, coupled with our local experience, make us the perfect fit to tackle the challenges ahead, deliver the project to the highest of standards and secure the supply of renewable energy to homes and businesses in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n

Main construction on the Argyll stations is due to start later in the summer, and around 200 people will be employed on the job at its peak, with at least 50 per cent to be employed from the local area.<\/p>\n

Balfour Beatty recently completed a substation at Peterhead for SSEN and last week was awarded a \u00a332m contract<\/a> from the client to design and develop the first phase of a 137km power line from Fort Augustus to Edinbane, which will link Skye and the Western Isles to mainland Scotland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
