Skanska has secured the contract to replace a nine-storey office block overlooking London\u2019s River Thames, involving the reconstruction of the retained century-old facade.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Swedish contractor will design and build the 12,100 square metre flexible workspace for Baola Properties at 7 Millbank (pictured).<\/span><\/p>\n

The facade, which was built in 1913 as part of British American Tobacco\u2019s headquarters, was \u201ccarefully deconstructed and stored\u201d before demolition works, and will be rebuilt into the structure later in the programme.<\/span><\/p>\n

McGee demolished most of the building under a contract signed in 2022. Make Architects, engineering consultancy Waterman Structures and consultants from Hilson Moran were also involved in the project.<\/span><\/p>\n

Skanska<\/span><\/a> will further deliver mechanical and electrical engineering services on the \u00a3105m development.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project will target a BREEAM outstanding rating and a Nabers five-star accreditation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Construction work will begin this month and is expected to complete in January 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n

It got the go-ahead despite objections from the BBC and ITV, which both have television studios next door at 4 Millbank and warned that the noise from construction work would have an impact on their television productions.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project is Skanska\u2019s latest win in the office sector, after it<\/span> picked up a \u00a3200m job in February to build a 50,000 square metre<\/span><\/a> development in Cambridge.<\/span><\/p>\n

Skanska<\/span> reported an increased pre-tax profit earlier<\/span><\/a> this month, while turnover was slightly down at \u00a31.33bn. The contractor said \u201cearly engagement\u201d was key to keeping project costs to a minimum and reducing project risks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Skanska is the <\/span>13th biggest contractor in the UK, according to the latest iteration<\/span><\/a> of the CN100 ranking.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
