Five contractors including VolkerRail have landed deals worth a total of more than \u00a31.4bn to upgrade Scotland\u2019s rail infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The contractors were confirmed this morning (13 August) by Network Rail Scotland under a new framework covering buildings, civils, structures, earthworks, drainage, and signalling and power projects.<\/p>\n

All of the contracts will run for five years with the option of a three-year extension based on performance.<\/p>\n

VolkerRail won a \u00a3150m contract in its first major deal with Network Rail Scotland. The firm will deliver the signalling, power and communications works.<\/p>\n

AmcoGiffen and Story Contracting are sharing buildings and civils work valued at \u00a3730m.<\/p>\n

AmcoGiffen will assess and repair 3.75 miles of coastal protection between Kincardine and Torryburn along the River Forth.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Story \u2014 the 10th largest recipient<\/a> of Network Rail cash in 2022\/23 \u2014 will carry out a scour protection programme on the West Highland Line, Network Rail said.<\/p>\n

QTS will deliver geotechnical and minor civils work worth up to \u00a3420m. The firm will complete earthworks and track drainage improvements near Cumbernauld, as well as upgrading on-track and off-track drainage on the line near Falkirk.<\/p>\n

Network Rail added that Taziker Industrial will deliver \u201cgeneral civils renewals projects including preventative structural repairs and culvert renewals work\u201d worth up to \u00a3150m.<\/p>\n

Niall McCreanor, director of specialist businesses at VolkerRail, said the contract reflected the firm\u2019s strategy as it had spent \u201cconsiderable time building our presence in Scotland to better understand the needs of Scotland\u2019s railway\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
