Ground engineering contractor Van Elle has acquired Scottish piling and drilling specialist Albion in a deal worth up to \u00a33.5m.<\/p>\n

London Stock Exchange-listed Van Elle said the acquisition, announced today, would strengthen its presence in Scotland and extend the group\u2019s technical capabilities.<\/p>\n

The purchase of Albion follows Van Elle\u2019s acquisition last year<\/a> of Galliford Try\u2019s specialist piling business Rock & Alluvium in a transaction worth up to \u00a33.8m.<\/p>\n

The latest deal will see Albion managing director Jim King and the firm\u2019s 31-strong workforce become part of the Van Elle Group while continuing to operate under the Albion brand.<\/p>\n

King is expected to assume a wider role as Van Elle\u2019s director for Scotland, reporting to chief operating officer Malcolm O\u2019Sullivan.<\/p>\n

Van Elle reported a modest rise in pre-tax profit<\/a> this year while revenue dropped by 6 per cent in what the firm described as challenging market conditions.<\/p>\n

Chief executive Mark Cutler said the acquisition of Albion represented an \u201cexciting and important step\u201d towards the delivery of the firm\u2019s growth strategy in the energy sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt also broadens the group\u2019s range of specialist capabilities and customer base,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Van Elle is already \u201cdelivering two energy infrastructure schemes in Scotland and expects to mobilise further, larger schemes in early 2025\u201d, the firm said in a stock exchange statement.<\/p>\n

Stirling-based Albion provides a range of specialist piling, technical drilling and geotechnical engineering including quarry and close-proximity blasting, marine drilling, ground stabilisation and rock anchoring.<\/p>\n

For the year ending 31 January 2024, the \u00a35.5m-turnover firm made a pre-tax profit of \u00a3800,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
