A well-trodden recruitment path and director-level promotions were the highlights from this week’s people moves in construction.<\/p>\n

Glen Harding<\/p><\/div>\n

Tier one contractor McLaren Construction has once again hired a senior executive from Sir Robert McAlpine<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The firm announced on Monday (2o January) the appointment of Glen Harding as its new commercial director. He has been tasked with increasing new business for McLaren’s construction management and specialist projects division.<\/p>\n

Harding was commercial director at McAlpine. Before then, he worked for five years as senior commercial manager at the contractor.<\/p>\n

His CV also includes stints at other CN100 firms,<\/a> including three years as senior commercial manager at Skanska UK and six years at Galliford Try as commercial director.<\/p>\n

Harding will report to McLaren managing director Vince Lydon, who himself joined the firm from McAlpine last August<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McLaren\u2019s chief executive Paul Heather, who joined in 2023, is also a McAlpine alumnus.<\/p>\n

Another CN100 firm, Robertson Construction, announced a pair of promotions in its Yorkshire and East Midlands division on Tuesday (21 January).<\/p>\n

Sean Woodcock has stepped up to operations director and Ben Brown has moved up to the commercial director role.<\/p>\n

Woodcock joined Robertson in September 2023 as operations manager, after five years at the now-defunct Buckingham Group.<\/p>\n

Before then, he served as construction director at Torsion Group from 2015 to 2018 and spent 13 years as a project manager at Miller Construction.<\/p>\n

Brown was previously a commercial director at Bam, where he spent more than two decades.<\/p>\n

Ongoing projects for Robertson in Yorkshire and the East Midlands include the \u00a319m Bradford Royal Infirmary Endoscopy Unit and RAAC replacement work for Airedale Hospital.<\/p>\n

In another promotion, Kevin Murgatroyd has been appointed the new managing director for contracting at Aggregate Industries.<\/p>\n

He has also joined the firm\u2019s executive committee.<\/p>\n

Murgatroyd joined the business as a regional director in August 2022. Before then, he was operations director at Engie for 18 months.<\/p>\n

His CV also includes eight years at Balfour Beatty Rail from 2007 to 2015 (latterly as director and general manager), and director-level roles at Nationwide Platforms, Mitie and Interserve.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, geo-environmental specialist LK Group has revealed two new hires.<\/p>\n

The Manchester-based company has recruited Nick Riding as a director. He previously worked for 16 years at Clancy Consulting, latterly as division director since 2018.<\/p>\n

Will Fitzpatrick is the firm\u2019s new remediation manager. He joined from Sirius Group where he was resident engineer since 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
