Bam<\/a> beat Wates, 8Build and McLaren to the job, according to data intelligence provider Glenigan.<\/p>\nWorks will include adding a three-floor extension for commercial use with a roof terrace, and adding cycle storage which is currently limited to 20 spaces with no showers.<\/p>\n
Thirty showers and more than 300 bike spaces are planned.<\/p>\n
The existing building will be refurbished to modernise office space while Broadgate Plaza will be turned into a “green oasis”.<\/p>\n
British Land said the scheme would “ensure the tower meets the highest sustainability standards and provides the type of modern, high-quality City office space that is currently in such high demand”.<\/p>\n
It is targeting BREEAM Outstanding and EPC A energy efficiency design ratings. A hybrid pavilion structure for the new-build element will incorporate reused steelwork and cross-laminated timber.<\/p>\n
Glenigan data lists Heyne Tillett Steel is the structural consultant and Cundall as providing mechanical and electrical consultancy services on the project.<\/p>\n
The scheme is expected to start on site this month. British Land expects work to be completed by the end of next year.<\/p>\n
Kim Sides, executive director for construction across the UK and Ireland at Bam, said Broadgate Tower would soon “join the ranks of London\u2019s most desirable work destinations”.<\/p>\n
She added:\u00a0“Bam\u2019s approach to environmental and social sustainability means the work will benefit not only the immediate area but also the broader community through creating work opportunities and adding green spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n
