ESS Modular appointed administrators four days<\/a> after ISG\u2019s subsidiaries called in Ernst & Young (EY) to administer its affairs<\/a>.<\/p>\n EY was also appointed to lead ESS Modular\u2019s administration process.<\/p>\n In a progress report to 22 March, published on Companies House yesterday (15 April), the administrators revealed that ESS Modular owed around \u00a370m to the supply chain when it collapsed.<\/p>\n It is unclear how much the supply chain will receive from the administration process.<\/p>\n However, EY said it \u201canticipates that there will be sufficient funds available to enable a distribution to be made\u201d to the unsecured creditors.<\/p>\n EY also revealed that it had received \u201cexpressions of interest\u201d from other firms to buy ESS Modular after it was appointed to lead the administration.<\/p>\n But those negotiations broke down, and EY said it had not received any further interest since.<\/p>\n All of ESS Modular\u2019s 100 staff have been made redundant.<\/p>\n The firm\u2019s administration is set to last at least 18 months in total after EY applied to extend the process by six months to March 2026.<\/p>\n That will give it more time to chase an estimated \u00a38.9m worth of debts owed to ESS Modular, it said. So far, it has recovered \u00a3164,300.<\/p>\n EY is also considering whether to continue a number of claims against third parties that ESS Modular launched before it collapsed.<\/p>\n These claims, the administrators said, were \u201cin relation to subcontractor underperformance\/defects\u201d.<\/p>\n Hull-based ESS Modular \u2013 which traded as Extraspace Solutions (UK) \u2013 posted a pre-tax loss of \u00a315.4m from revenue of \u00a331.5m in its most recent full-year accounts for the year to 30 June 2022.<\/p>\n It was placed into administration on 23 September last year alongside its fully owned subsidiary Spatial Initiative.<\/p>\n ESS Modular experienced \u201csignificant losses\u201d on legacy contracts, which caused \u201csevere liquidity pressures\u201d, EY said last year after it was appointed.<\/p>\n It added that shareholder funding had alleviated cashflow pressures until that point, but ESS Modular needed more cash funding to continue to trade.<\/p>\n The modular specialist was part of former ISG owner Cathexis\u2019 portfolio.
