Elsewhere, main contract awards rose against the previous year and the preceding three months.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>East of England overview<\/h3>\n<p>The total value of projects starting in the East of England was \u00a32.04bn, 80 per cent down against the previous three months and 39 per cent lower than last year. Underlying projects (less than \u00a3100m) starting on site decreased 23 per cent against the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted (SA) basis to stand one per cent lower than a year ago. Major projects (\u00a3100m or more in value) totalled \u00a3450m during the period, a 95 per cent decline against the preceding three months and a 74 per cent fall against the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Totalling \u00a33.68bn, main contract awards increased 13 per cent against the previous three months to stand 25 per cent up on the previous year. Major project approvals totalled \u00a32.48bn, an 81 per cent increase against the preceding three months to stand 73 per cent up on the previous year. Underlying contract awards experienced a decrease of 30 per cent against the preceding three months (SA) and declined 20 per cent against last year to total \u00a31.2bn.<\/p>\n<p>Detailed planning approvals, at \u00a33.01bn, increased three per cent during the three months to March to stand 44 per cent down against last year. Major approvals increased 111 per cent against the preceding three months and fell 65 per cent on a year ago, totalling \u00a31.12bn. Private housing accounted for the second largest share of planning approvals (27 per cent). The sector experienced a 19 per cent decline against the previous year to total \u00a3828m.<\/p>\n<p>Accounting for 17 per cent, offices totalled \u00a3513m, with the value of planning approvals having jumped 101 per cent against 2024 levels.
