Underlying work (less than \u00a3100m in value) starting on-site during the three months to March decreased 43 per cent against the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted (SA) basis, to stand 11 per cent down compared with last year\u2019s levels. Major projects totalled \u00a3389m, down 36% against the previous year; however, up on the preceding three months, where no major projects commenced.<\/p>\n<p>Main contract awards totalled \u00a3605m during the period, a 111 per cent increase on the preceding three months to stand 42 per cent down on 2024 levels. Underlying contract awards decreased 14 per cent (SA) against the preceding three months and faced a 51 per cent decrease compared with last year\u2019s levels. Major projects totalled \u00a3389m, an increase against the preceding three months where no major projects were present, but a 36 per cent decline against the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Totalling \u00a3798m, detailed planning approvals increased seven per cent against the preceding three months to stand 24 per cent higher than the previous year. Underlying detailed planning approvals in Northern Ireland decreased 32 per cent (SA) against the preceding three months, to stand 34 per cent down against the previous year. Major projects totalled \u00a3375m, an increase against the preceding three months and the previous year, where no major projects were present.<\/p>\n<h3>Sector analysis: project starts<\/h3>\n<p>Health was the most active sector for project starts in Northern Ireland. The value of health starts totalled \u00a3417m, with the sector having accounted for 55 per cent of the total value. The sector experienced a 723 per cent increase against the previous year. The sector accounted for a 52 per cent share of the total value, accounting for the largest share of approvals. Social Housing, at \u00a369m, was the third most active sector for detailed planning approvals during the three months to March, accounting for nine per cent of the total value. The value of consents increased by 95 per cent against last year\u2019s levels.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, utilities at \u00a339m also fared well, increasing 239 per cent against the previous year to account for 5 per cent of the total value.
