This combined with a 21 per cent rise in capital funding for the Department for Education during 2025\/26 should help lift starts during the second half of 2025.<\/p>\n<h3>Types of projects started<\/h3>\n<p>Project-starts experienced a poor performance; however, universities experienced a strong period against the previous year.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schools accounted for the largest share of starts (63 per cent), totalling \u00a3740m, but declined 44 per cent against the previous year<\/li>\n<li>Universities, the second largest category (23 per cent), increased 44 per cent year-on-year to \u00a3267m<\/li>\n<li>Colleges declined 87 per cent against the previous year to total \u00a337m<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Regional<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Most regions saw declines in project-starts<\/li>\n<li>Northern Ireland experienced sharp growth for project-starts and detailed planning approvals against the previous year<\/li>\n<li>London had a poor period for both starts and approvals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sector starts in the South East rose by 38 per cent against a year ago to \u00a3179m and at 15 per cent of starts the region was most active during the quarter. Northern Ireland at \u00a332m experienced a strong period, increasing five times against the previous year to account for three per cent of the total value.<\/p>\n<p>In planning approvals, Northern Ireland accounted for the largest share of approvals (25 per cent), as with project starts the area experienced sharp growth, rising 378 per cent against the previous year.\u00a0 Growth in the area was accelerated by the \u00a3375m Strule Shared Education Campus development. Wales at \u00a3153m experienced the sharpest increase of any area, rising seven times on the previous year to account for nine per cent of the total
